We have a really beautiful fire, the breeze is keeping the mosquitoes away, the waves are rippling on the shore, and I'm half asleep in a chair. I'm only doing my writing now because I know I'm going to sit here until I'm pretty much asleep. We have a chimney fire and tonight is perfect.
August 6: I have the boat floats
I have only been out in the water or on the boat a bit - a few hours a day, maybe - and it's only been two days but I'm already having the boat float dizziness. This is when I get off the boat and still feel the waves. Usually they aren't too bad but … Continue reading August 6: I have the boat floats
August 5: it’s hard to write at the lake
I am having trouble with writing while I'm up here at the lake. I've been coming to the lake since I was a little kid - same resort, same lake, same family group - and it's almost like it's so routine I can't remember to write or think about what to write. It could have … Continue reading August 5: it’s hard to write at the lake
August 4: almost forgot
I almost forgot to write! I was snuggling down and sort of falling asleep and I remembered. So here I am. Half awake, in a super-hard bed in a hot cabin room, listening to Dak snore, doing my writing out of a sense of duty to myself. Annika almost exploded with excitement when we were … Continue reading August 4: almost forgot
August 3: too much excitement
Tomorrow we go to the lake for a week with the whole family and Annika is so excited she can not sleep or stop talking to me. She is snuggled up next to me and every few minutes she says something like "I have a question..." or "I'm so excited." Her questions are things like … Continue reading August 3: too much excitement
August 2: Unsolicited phone calls are terrible.
I usually don't answer the phone when I get a number that isn't in my contacts list. I hate talking on the phone and it's usually an unwanted marketing call or another robocall from St Paul Public Schools reminding me to update my kids' records online or telling me that "your child's lunch account is … Continue reading August 2: Unsolicited phone calls are terrible.
August 1: it’s gonna be a LONG night.
I am such a scatterbrained airhead today. I missed my turn for the doctor this morning and sort of got lost (I blame construction). I almost put the cereal away in the fridge. I started getting a sore throat and took a nap, which helped me pull it together for the afternoon/evening, but then I … Continue reading August 1: it’s gonna be a LONG night.
July 31: happy half-year anniversary, blog!
I made it! Six months of daily writing and I haven't given in to the desire to quit, even though there are definitely days when I'm like "who cares!? Why am I even doing this? No one would even notice or care if I didn't blog one day." But I would notice and care. I … Continue reading July 31: happy half-year anniversary, blog!
July 30: THE SCHOOL DREAMS HAVE STARTED
They're HEEEEEEERRRREE! Two nights in a row now I've dreamed the back-to-school horror dreams. They usually don't start until mid-August but I am feeling extra anxious this year, so here we go! The first dream was especially weird. In it, I was back at Forest Lake and we were doing all the back-to-school stuff, and … Continue reading July 30: THE SCHOOL DREAMS HAVE STARTED
July 29: Justice in Minneapolis
The city of Minneapolis released body cam video from the officer shooting of Thurman Blevins. The videos, linked here, is obviously sensitive and not appropriate for younger eyes, but you should watch it. We should know what police are doing in the name of "public safety," even when it makes us uncomfortable. My first reaction … Continue reading July 29: Justice in Minneapolis
