I went to a shoe store and they were playing old music and Bjork's "It's Oh So Quiet" came on and it brought me WAY back. So tonight, when I got to play DJ with Annika (she played DJ last night), she Definitely got introduced to Bjork's music: "Human Behavior," "Army of Me," "Big Time … Continue reading May 19: Music Flashback

May 18: emotional whiplash
Wow. I had a great week at school. My kids did excellent on their Romeo and Juliet quizzes today. We've had a great time reading it and playing with it, and they are doing so well. My 12th graders are doing some creative writing using the story lines and interview/narrative structure of the novel we've … Continue reading May 18: emotional whiplash
May 17: Is there a line for movies or other art?
I've been obsessed with news and reviews of the Lars von Trier movie that premiered at Cannes Film Festival - The House That Jack Built. Over 100 people walked out of it, with one reviewer tweeting that it was repulsive, shouldn't have been made, and the actors are culpable. Here is another review that "is … Continue reading May 17: Is there a line for movies or other art?
May 16: This has all been wonderful, but
I have Phish stuck in my head. I was flipping through the Sirius XM channels on the way to work and came across Jam On, the jam band channel, playing "Down With Disease" and it was a total flashback to early college. When I was a college freshman, my friend and I hitch-hiked to a … Continue reading May 16: This has all been wonderful, but
May 15: the ides of May
Things that are on my mind: I'm sleepy I got an email from a student's mom that started with the greeting "Hi Teacher Robyn!" And now I want to be called Teacher Robyn instead of "MISS!" I had a kid who was my student in another semester one down to my room after school and … Continue reading May 15: the ides of May
May 14: my girl is 9. Wow.
Nine years ago I was laying in a hospital bed, completely numb from the chest down, exhausted, holding this girl. She was 6 pounds, 6 ounces, which, for my body's ability to carry children, was pretty darn big and I was proud we made it that far. She was supposed to come at the end … Continue reading May 14: my girl is 9. Wow.
May 13: Happy Mother’s Day
Today was beautiful outside. I know I promised to write every day, but this week and this weekend has kicked my ass and I am going to count this as my daily writing because I'm doing the best I can with what I have. Hope everyone had a lovely day.
May 12: I don’t even know anymore
Last night, I had the craziest dream. I dreamt I had another baby, a boy. Annika was so excited to have a baby around and immediately asked when I was going to have another one, like it's just a regular thing with me. Anders was super helpful. Annika is so persistent though, that I remember … Continue reading May 12: I don’t even know anymore
May 11: long week
It's been a loooong week. I'm falling asleep just writing this. I have so many things I want to shout from the rooftops and ask for help in, but I can't because of confidentiality and tonight, exhaustion. I didn't try any new snacks today either. Maybe that would've helped.
May 10: too much
I have too much going on in my brain to focus enough to write anything worth reading, or at least that's how it feels. Everything is heavy. However, I did try a new snack: almond butter granola cups. They were really good and I recommend them wholeheartedly.
