December 28: yep, I’m sick

I finally got what I think is my first virus of the 18-19 school year. Usually I get it in September and by now I’m onto my second cold, but this autumn was unusually healthy in the virus department. I picked it up from Anders, who came down with it on Christmas. Dak said he is feeling it coming on too. That kind of sucks.

So I’m already in bed – I’m so happy to be in my own bed tonight – and hiding out under my electric blanket. I was starting to fall asleep, so I figured I’d better write before conking out for good. Perry is snuggled up to my legs and will sleep all night hard, too. I don’t think he sleeps especially well when we aren’t home. I’m the same way. My back was sore and I couldn’t get comfortable and it didn’t help that I was getting sick. Long story short, we are both happy to be in my bed and going to sleep.

I suppose if I am going to get sick, this isn’t a terrible time to do it. I don’t have to think about whether or not I should go to work or get a sub; I can just sleep in and not worry about it. That will likely help me feel better soon too.

Dak has been hitting the placebos hard. He swears by Airborne, but I’ve never noticed it actually help anything, aside from kind of feeling good when I drink it. It’s fine; it works for him and that’s okay. I wish it worked for me. I tried a couple of melty Zicam tablets. The thing about these type of supplements is, how do you even know they helped anything? Like, you still get sick, but how do you know if you didn’t get as sick as you would have without the supplement? It’s weird. I swear by DayQuil. I can feel that helping and I can feel when it wears off. I guess I’m a skeptic when it comes to other things.

Anyway, hopefully the cold is short lived, like Anders’s was. He says he’s feeling “fine” today, even though he still has a bit of a cough. So far, it’s just annoying and exhausting.
