October 31: Halloween proper

My poor girl got sick today on Halloween! She had a low-grade fever and felt tired, so Dak picked her up from school and took her home for a nap. She was feeling better, supposedly, when I got home to take her out trick-or-treating with her cousins, but after being out for just a little while, she came back to the house and was done. She didn’t even eat any candy.

I took her home and all she wanted was a shower, warm jammies, and to curl up under the electric blanket. She was asleep around 8. Poor girl! There are a few days in a kid’s life when it just sucks to be sick: Christmas, birthdays, Easter (if you do a big egg hunt), and Halloween. I feel extra sad for her because she was so excited about her costume and going trick-or-treating with her cousins. She has been talking about Halloween since school started. My poor, sweet girl.

Tomorrow she will probably stay home. She isn’t remarkably sick, but she had no appetite and was super tired all day today. She had a low fever, but she was shivering a little tonight so I’m worried she’s working up a higher fever as she’s sleeping. I just want her to feel good enough to enjoy some candy and get back to school. It’s amazing how much I feel affected and disappointed for her. We’ll do something fun when she’s feeling better.
