September 30: back to the real world

I have been sleepy all day, which makes sense after the long weekend of trying to stay warm in layers of clothes. If anyone doubts Minnesota’s strong sweater game, they should have seen the crowd at Boats and Bluegrass. We are a great bunch of well-sweatered people.

The music was good, but the best part of the weekend was just hanging out with my kids and family and friends without feeling like I had a ton of work to do (I do, but I made the conscious decision to ignore it). I painted Annika’s face and we snuggled to stay warm in the cold. I played tetherball and laughed until my guts hurt with Anders. I sat by the fire and generally relaxed with Dak. I danced and laughed with Lora. It was good.

I did decide to make some food for the week, though. I’ve been trying to eat healthy, but it’s really hard to eat healthily on the go. I’m busy a lot during the week. I don’t do well making decisions on the fly; I make poor food decisions. So I made veggie soup and tried to make shredded chicken (it’s still cooking, so thank goodness Dak is good at staying up later and can take care of it). I don’t cook a lot, so this was a pretty big day. I feel like I’m ready to go back to school, even though I’m a little scared that I haven’t done any work this weekend.

At least I have a good supply.
