Today was… difficult. Don’t get me wrong, most of the day was good, but just super busy. I think I let small things bother me too much and I think I might be trying to do too much. As usual.
BUT… today, a kid who has been trying my patience since the beginning of school TALKED TO ME! In a nice way. About something he cares about. It was AWESOME.
My generally unmotivated 12th graders are doing a short study on Aesop’s Fables to start our Legends class. We made little videos to tell the stories and now we are watching them and they are SO FUN. They especially love the stories that include the Ass (meaning the donkey). One group made “The Ass and his Masters” while another made “The Ass and the Load of Salt.” Both are great stories. They have good morals. And we all dissolved into silly laughter during a highly dramatic reading of “The Ass and the Load of Salt.” I am pretty sure there were tears from laughing so hard. The class really came together after that – it was kind of a bonding experience. Moral: Laughter is a great motivator and community builder.
It’s easy to leave a day feeling tired, defeated, and generally bad. I was at school for 12 hours today. 11 hours yesterday. I am on the verge of tears more than I expected I would be. But there is good too. Most of the kids are awesome most of the time.
