Annika is back from spending a whole week in Bemidji and she can’t sleep. We’ve tried some water, reading, sleeping on the couch instead of on her bed, listening to a podcast to relax, and finally I had her take a melatonin (see yesterday’s blog for more info on that). She’s still awake and she’s frustrated. I feel bad for her, so I’m frustrated. I suppose she’s just not worn out for today. It was rainy most of the day, so it was tough to do anything. Tomorrow we’ll need to get some exercise or something.
She used to be the easiest to put to bed. When she was a baby, we would lay her in her crib and she’d go to sleep. It was weird, since Anders hated the crib and would barely stay in it when he was laid in it already asleep. She was not a snuggle bug like Anders was as a baby.
That’s changed as she’s gotten older. She likes to sneak in bed with me when she can, and she has a million excuses for why. I’m not especially good at deterring her, especially since I’ve realized how short the time is where she will actually want to snuggle up – those tween years are coming quick.
So I’m awake because she’s awake, and that’s okay. It won’t feel that way next week once I go back to work, so I’m just letting it be. Hopefully it won’t take long for all of us to get back into the school routine.
