We had a busy day. I woke up at a normal hour, I did laundry, cooked and froze some corn, picked up our artwork from the fair, made lunch, brought Annika to camp, ran errands, picked Annika up, made dinner, watched movies and followed #primeday Twitter (which was way more fun than Prime Day participation), finished up laundry, and read with Annika. She just went to sleep and I thought, well, I wonder what happened today in the real world?
Everything is about this “summit” with Trump and Putin. I can’t even stomach it, but I listened to a few clips and read some of the transcript, and HOW CAN ANYONE STILL BELIEVE THIS GUY? It is so clear he has some sort of connection to, or strong-man fetish for, Putin. But that isn’t that surprising if you’ve been paying attention.
What seemed surprising was the reactions from the right wing. I saw a response on Twitter from Joe Walsh, an extreme right-wing “tea party” conservative. He said he will never support Trump again. Obviously there was no recognition that the tea party paved part of the road to this fustercluck, but there was a never Trump pledge there. Other Republican leaders and pundits are coming out with criticism, but all it amounts to is “thoughts and prayers” at this point because they won’t do anything. They have all the leverage they need – they control the entire federal government – but if they use it, then I will believe the momentum may be shifting away from Trump/Putin. Until then, it’s all hot air and bullshit.
Long story short, watch for actions, not words. I’m not holding my breath.
