June 7: go sports

I’m not very good at being a fanatic about anything, but I like watching almost every sport. Tonight, I’m watching what is probably one of the more exciting hockey games in the Stanley Cup.

I don’t really get the whole “we won the game let’s RIOT” fan behavior, but that might be because I’m not very destructive. I love the adrenaline rush that comes with a fast paced, exciting game, regardless of which sport. I kind of miss that part of playing competitively; I suppose that’s why so many people watch.

That, and it’s a great way to nerd out. Sports fans are pretty much just the jock version of Magic: The Gathering, Dungeons and Dragons, or Pokémon. Stats, players, trades, team strength, competition… pretty much the same. I’m not focused enough to dedicate that much time to the stats and study of either the games or the sports, but I know enough to enjoy them occasionally.

The Capitals just went up 4-3. The goalies have been doing a fabulous job in this game and while I should be in bed to get sleep for the last day of school, I’m going to stay up and watch. Just under 7 minutes. So maybe I’ll be in bed in a half hour.
