Today was a crazy day of emotion, so I ended up asleep at like 5:30 pm and slept until about 8:30 or 9. Then I went on Twitter, only to end up watching a video of people being reunited with their lost dogs and getting excited and sobbing. I cried. Perry the dog looked at me like I was crazy, but mainly I think he was looking for the whining of the dogs on the video.
I don’t know if I totally trust people who don’t like dogs. There are some reasons for people to be afraid of dogs or not want a dog, but straight up disliking them? That’s hard to understand for me. I get it if someone had a bad experience with dogs before, or if they’ve been bit or hurt by a dog. It also makes sense that someone who is allergic to dogs can’t have a dog. But that doesn’t mean that the person would hate dogs. I’m allergic to cats, but I love them anyway. I can’t live with one or be around them too much, but I like them a lot and I wish I could have one. I understand, also, why someone couldn’t have a dog or shouldn’t have a pet due to their situation in life – working long hours, living in a place that doesn’t allow them, living a travel lifestyle or being mobile – Sure, they should maybe not have a dog.
What I really don’t get is people who straight up don’t like dogs for no reason. Dogs are wonderful. Even the small ones. I always thought I would like big dogs; my first dog as a kid was a lab/shepherd mix, my first dog as an adult was a St. Bernard. Now I have a miniature poodle because the kids fell in love with him and he is also the best. Small dogs are underrated. While it’s true he’s not very intimidating, he definitely lets us know when there’s someone around. He’s easier to snuggle, too, because he actually fits right on me. My favorite thing to do in the morning is to sit down on the chair with my coffee and the dog on my lap and read the morning news.
Long story short: I don’t understand dog haters. Dogs are the best.
