Today hit 100 degrees. It was the hottest Memorial Day ever for the Twin Cities. Like 6 weeks ago we had a real blizzard, now it’s 100 degrees.
I hate the heat. I was getting pretty sick of the snow, but I don’t mind cool weather. I’m especially worried because most of the schools, including my kids’ schools and my own high school, don’t have much if any air conditioning. It’s pretty absurd if you think about it – in any other sort of indoor, office-type job, there is air conditioning. Businesses and corporations wouldn’t stand for it because it would cut productivity so much. But our kids are expected to work, learn, and take finals in this heat.
In addition, it’s Ramadan and I’m really worried about the heat for the kids who are fasting all day. That’s a really long day, and when it’s this hot, it could be dangerous.
I have never taught in a non-air conditioned building, so tomorrow will be another learning experience. Hopefully it will cool down tonight and we will have some respite.
