Today was a super long day – I’m finally just getting into bed because I had a rare late night after a school day. I went to Circus Juventas’s Spring Show to see my talented niece perform in a couple acts and to see all the other talented young people from our city. They put on a beautiful show every year, even though it’s SUPER long, and I always spend about half the show with a weird grimace because I’m scared someone’s going to fall or get broken or something terrible like that. Of course, nothing terrible happened, but I know what happened to Robin’s family and I don’t need to see a repeat with my own eyes.
Aside from my niece being the most amazing kid in the show, I was really impressed by the high-wire team, the Mexican web team, all the aerial acts, and the flying trapeze at the end, which was an absolute joy to watch. I hang out with young people all day and I love to see them do things they love. They are so unafraid and full of joy when they are going all out and being successful: basketball, lacrosse, speech, debate, and in tonight’s case, circus performance. Adults typically don’t have that spark of excitement when they do something amazing. It’s like it’s been beaten out of us – “act like you’ve been there” or “be humble” or something like that. Kids just exude joy when they succeed, and it’s contagious.
So, long story short, everyone should go see a show at Circus Juventas sometime. They put on a great show.
