April 17: It’s Tuesday again.

Today was super busy and it didn’t help that my ear was plugged pretty much all day so I couldn’t hear out of the right side of my head. This was disadvantageous, considering 9th graders want to talk to me all the time and I can barely hear them when they are all talking anyway, so today was especially difficult. Luckily, my seniors were writing their essays and pretty much did their thing.

I also learned that I am teaching 7th graders next year and I might be teaching drama at the middle school. This will be a particularly interesting challenge for me, since a) I’ve never taught middle school; and b) I’ve never taught drama, unless you count the speech coaching I did with some creative expression, poetry, and humor. I don’t really count it. I’ve never even been in a play, although I did take a drama class in high school. I’ve done tech theater stuff, but not much, and not for a very, very long time. I don’t like musicals (for the most part). I’m not licensed to teach theater, although drama might be a different story (I’m licensed in Communication Arts and Literature). I don’t know.

That said, I would do it as well as I can. I had no background in debate when I started and I was voted MN debate coach of the year this year by my peers. I had no background in literary arts magazines or publishing when I did the literary arts magazine back in the day at Apollo, but we were very successful. I had never taught anything like the Legends class I’m teaching right now, but I think the class is going pretty well. Maybe the universe is pushing me in this direction for some reason. Maybe the universe likes to push my buttons, or maybe this is just what I’m meant to do right now. I’m going with the flow.
