It was an old fashioned blizzard! We were dumb enough to run an errand in the early afternoon when it didn’t seem that bad. It was. It was really bad. Or at least it got really bad. It wasn’t super cold so the snow would bunch up on the windshield wipers so we couldn’t see out. And the visibility dropped quickly in the afternoon, to where we could only see maybe a few yards in front of the car. Walking through the snow was also terrible because it was tall enough to get into all of our boots. The poor bunny had snow even in his hutch; I got a towel to cover some more of the screen so he wouldn’t have to deal with quite as much snow and wind. I gave him plenty of hay and treats, too, so at least he could enjoy something. Perry wanted nothing to do with outside. He’d need to go out, and he’d start shaking and hesitating by the door because he didn’t want to go out, but he needed to, so we kicked him out long enough to at least go to the bathroom.
Tonight I am thinking of my former colleagues and everything they have gone through today with prom. Originally, prom was supposed to be today in downtown St. Paul. They changed the location to the high school so that they wouldn’t have to travel down into the blizzard, which had to be so frustrating for the planners and committee to have to try to decorate and plan for. Then, tonight, they pulled the plows off the roads up there, so they canceled the prom just an hour before it was supposed to start. I know teachers and kids were there setting up and preparing. I’m sure kids and the planners are devastated and I’m sure they are getting hit by backseat drivers on social media saying how they would have done it better or canceled it earlier or whatever. I’m not defending the people whose job it is to make that call, but the teachers and kids and parents caught in the crossfire who were just trying to make it a great event… I feel bad for them. I can’t imagine. I hope they all got (get) home safely and start to feel better soon. I hope they can find a way to make it up in a fun way. I do think it was the right choice to cancel, even if it could have been done much earlier. I was out once in this weather – no one should be out there in it, unless they are on a snowmobile, snowshoes, or skis.
