I was surfing around on the ol’ social media and came across a video of a guy in a kayak catching an 8 foot sturgeon in Idaho. I was super excited to show Dak, but he was pretty unimpressed. I got kind of frustrated, because, here was a guy in a kayak catching a fish bigger than anything I’ve ever seen before and it’s jumping out of the water and I would definitely crap myself if a fish like that jumped that close to my kayak. Dak was like, yeah, that’s big, but they get a lot bigger.
Totally annoyed with his lack of impress, I googled sturgeon. Holy shit. They can be 20 feet long. There are pictures of like seven people holding one. These are in rivers here in the United States.
Ok. So I’m writing about this for a couple reasons: first, it’s the last thing that happened and I’m still kind of in shock at the pictures. Second, I learn something every day! I feel kind of dumb for not knowing that sturgeon got to be THAT big, mainly because Dak rattled it off like it was some sort of common knowledge that I’d somehow failed to know, and thus failed at being a Minnesotan or something. Still, I learned (or relearned if I knew it earlier in my life and forgot it) something kind of weird and cool and I think it’s important that my readers (the tens of readers here) know that I am a life-long learner and sturgeons get really fucking big. You’re welcome.
