Things are weird. Real weird.
I agree with Marco Rubio on a policy issue. I’ve agreed with him on things in the past, but nothing substantial – just mainly that Trump is a terrible candidate and shouldn’t be president. Ever. I also agree with him that when you are thirsty, you should take a drink of water. It doesn’t matter where you are or what you are doing – teaching a class? Take a drink. Giving the Republican response to the President’s State of the Union speech? Take a drink. I’m in favor of hydration, and I think it’s fair to say Marco is too.
But now? He introduced a bill to eliminate the time changes. *tire screech* *record scratch* *deep breath in* I agree with him. I love fall back because I love to sleep, but it’s not worth the spring forward. He wants us to just stay on this time frame right here. I. Am. Here. For. It.
So I wonder who will oppose this. I wonder if our Minnesota senators and reps will balk at it, saying that kids will go to the bus stop in the dark. Guess what? THEY ALREADY DO. We live up north. What do you think people up by the Arctic Circle do? Do you think they just don’t go to the bus stop when it’s dark all day? At least if we keep the time the way it is now, they will get home when it’s still light out.
Will this become a partisan issue? I can’t imagine why it would. I’ve had kids debate daylights savings time in class a number of times and we always come to the same conclusion: it’s too much trouble for what it is worth. Before you say “well, those are kids, like they know anything…” They do. They research and they find the statistics about health, the economy, electricity savings, farming, the whole nine yards. They shared those stats with me. When they researched and debated it, they knew more than most of the people reading this blog.
I’m open to changing my mind on this, but I’ve gotten more and more ornery and crotchety and cantankerous about it as I’ve gotten older. Everyone used to tell me that you get more conservative when you get old, but not me. I’ve gotten more annoyed with daylight savings time. Still, I could handle the self-imposed jet lag if there was a good reason. If you read this and have one, hit me up.
Otherwise, I’m with Marco. *shivers*
