February 23: Passersby were amazed…

I’m writing because I have to because I made a commitment to write every day this year. I’ve been sick in bed all day, which is kind of lonely, but it’s good because I’m just tired. I have been perusing social media and watching internet fights here and there, but I don’t even have the energy to troll anyone on twitter, let alone think very hard. I kept thinking what am I going to write about today? Because I don’t have enough focus to even come up with a cohesive idea or theme. I waited until the last minute, in theory – it’s after 11:30 and I finally started.

I keep thinking about how The Onion used to have filler stories in their paper edition (back in my day…) and they would have silly headlines and then the copy would just read “Passersby were amazed by the large amount of blood. Passersby were amazed by the large amount of blood. Passersby were amazed…” The Onion was, and is, a national treasure. That aside, I just wanted to do something like that today – something mindless just to say that I wrote. Which I guess I kind of did.

The copy they used, though, feels a little too heavy, considering the events of the past week and even year. It shouldn’t – it’s satire – but it kind of does.

So. Passersby were amazed by the large amount of puppies. That is more uplifting, but grammatically killing my brain because it should be number, not amount, but then it doesn’t sound quite close enough and it bugs me.

Passersby were amazed by the large amount of love. That works, but I kind of hate the oversimplification and overuse of the word love for too many things. That’s a topic for a whole nother blog post.

Passersby were amazed by the large amount of germs emanating from my coughing, which just showed up as a symptom today. This is the most truthful thing. It’s why I am holed up in my bedroom, half asleep, lonely, and unable to focus on a topic to the point that I was totally considering using a The Onion trope from the 90s to get out of writing legitimately.

I wrote. Ta da.
